I’m happy to announce the return of the Door to Door Reader! I’ll be sending out monthly announcements on programs and services with the East Hants Community Learning Association, East Hants & Area Community Rider, Elmsdale Community Garden and our partners. Whether you’re interested in educational opportunities, affordable transportation, or food security in your community, this newsletter is your one stop shop for information.

Below are some upcoming events we’d love for you to spread the word about. If you are interested in putting up a copy in your workplace or community space, contact me, Phil Laven, at communications@communityrider.com.

Thanks for sticking around and let us know if there are any events you would like to partner on.

New Poverty Reduction program available

The East Hants & Area Community Rider is pleased to announce a new subsidized transportation program for 2019-2020. This program is designed to make it easier and more affordable for low-income Nova Scotians to access transportation. Funds are limited and the goal is to assist as many passengers as possible. The funds are available for use from October 2019 until the end of March 2020. Funding is available on a first come, first served basis until the fund is fully expended.

How does the subsidy work?

  • Passengers must complete an application for this program.
  • EHCR staff will review these applications for approval.
  • Passengers will book transportation as needed and will tell Dispatch they wish to apply the subsidy to their ride at a maximum of 50%, or half the cost of the trip.

Additionally, this subsidy allows us to offer $2 shopping loops to passengers.

To apply, please fill out an application form and submit it to EHCR staff. Applications can be filled out over the phone, submitted through e-mail, mail, or through one of our drivers.
