At EHCLA, we believe in a strong and connected community through education and transportation.

With a hands-on learning approach, we offer a range of educational services to the residents of East Hants. Understanding the educational needs of our community enables us to develop programming and offer opportunities for you to gain a GED, upgrade essential skills and get creative with learning. EHCLA supports and encourages individual growth and helping families reach their learning potential.

Workplace Education

We offer programs to support you at work, such as first-aid training or mental health training! Often, this is specifically selected for workplaces. If your workplace needs help with training, please give us a call!

Educational Programs

We offer a range of programs to improve literacy skills, prepare for your GED, upgrade skills and more! Tuition and books are FREE in our classes. Classes run from September to June, with continuous intake so you can start anytime!

Community Programming

We provide a wide range of fun, interactive, community-based programs to engage the amazing people of East Hants! Stay tuned to our Facebook page for upcoming events and programs.

The East Hants Community Learning Association (EHCLA) has been delivering Adult Learning Programs (ALPs) with a curriculum developed by the Department of Labour and Advanced Education, since 2004. EHCLA is one of 31 provincial learning organizations recognized by the Provincial Department of Labour and Advanced Education and we deliver basic upgrading classes under the guidelines of the Nova Scotia School of Adult Learning (NSSAL).  NSSAL’s main focus is on addressing adult basic literacy and training needs and to encourage cooperation among stakeholders in the community. EHCLA is a member of the Association of Nova Scotia Community Learning Organisations (ANSCLO).

Our Adult Learning Programs (ALPs) are free for adults who did not get their high school diploma. We have two full-time instructors on staff delivering daytime and evening ALP classes. Some of the benefits of these classes include:

  • FREE for all adults who have not completed their high school diploma, are over 19 years old, and have been out of school for one year.
  • Continuous intake from September to May.
  • Small classes with qualified teachers.
  • Input in decisions made regarding goals, programs, schedules, and progress.
  • Classes run Monday to Thursday, both daytime and evening, September to May.

This is a learning program targeting individuals who have long-term or significant challenges when finding or holding onto employment. It is a combination of classroom learning, workshops, training programs and volunteer work experience. The goal of the program is employment or meaningful volunteer work for all participants. Contact us for more information about the Skills to Work Program and information on start dates.
