September means a return to school for many in the province. But school is not just for kids. Are there any skills you need to work on? Whether it’s becoming more comfortable with a cell phone or computer, improving your communication skills or training for your workplace, East Hants Community Learning can help! Our free programs are open to everyone and we love to work with others to provide support in the skills you need.
Give us a call at 902-883-1608 and let us know how we can make learning more accessible for you or your workplace.
Thank you to the Municipality for
our Beautiful Flower Bed
You may have noticed the planter box in front of our sign on Highway 214 is looking very pretty this year. That’s because we received funding from the Municipality of East Hants to spruce up the planter bed with new flowers.
Thank you to the Municipality, our councillor, Norval Mitchell, and kudos to Krestin Mosa for the amazing job she did on the flowers!
Low Income? Need a Ride?
Apply for our Fare Assistance Program
The East Hants Community Rider has a program available for individuals that needs help accessing transportation for a reduced cost. The Fare Assistance Program reduces the price of transportation to $5 for rides within 12 km and 50% off costs over 12 km for one day per week.
To qualify, an individual must make less than $35,000 per year or a couple/family must make less than $60,000 per year.
To apply, please visit our website and fill out an application form. We also require a copy of an applicant’s 2022 Notice of Assessment. This can be sent via e-mail, sent to our office (224 Highway 214, Suite 101, Elmsdale, NS B2S 1J7), or picked up by one of our drivers.
This program will be available until March 31, 2024 or until the fund is fully expended. Thank you to the province of Nova Scotia’s Department of Public Works for this support. It enables us to help those that need it most and make our region more accessible for all residents.
Celebrate the Garden at the
2023 Business Excellence Awards
We’re over the moon that the Elmsdale Community Garden is a finalist in 3 categories at the 2023 Business Excellence Awards through the East Hants & Districts Chamber of Commerce! Thank you to everyone that put our name forward! The awards will be held on Wednesday, October 25th at the Oakfield Golf & Country Club.
We hope you will join us there for an evening celebrating the amazing community of businesses and organizations we have here in East Hants. Tickets will go on sale in the coming weeks.
An increasingly important part of the Elmsdale Community Garden is our Community Freezer. This freezer is restocked on a regular basis with healthy meals cooked by our staff and volunteers. Users simply call our office at 902-883-1608 from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except on holidays) and either pick up the meals at a pre-scheduled time or get them delivered via the East Hants Community Rider.
Requests for freezer meals have not slowed down this summer and we do our best to keep it as full as possible. Donations are a great help in this regard, as they provide the direct support we need to purchase ingredients and cook up a storm. A $500 donation covers all the costs of a freezer re-fill and is a great way for individuals and businesses to get recognized through our Corporate Support Program.
If you know someone struggling with food security, or simply need a change from the same old meals? Reach out and we’ll do what we can to help!
