Press Release: EHCLA response to COVID-19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EAST HANTS ADULT LEARNING AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES RESPOND TO COVID-19

Measures include suspension of classes until April 6th, scaling back transportation

Elmsdale, NS – March 16, 2020

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, East Hants Community Learning Association and the East Hants and Area Community Rider will be adjusting its operating practices. These adjustments are being made to protect staff, learners and passengers in light of the danger posed by the current health emergency.

East Hants Community Learning Association is currently on March Break. To keep in line with other educational bodies in the province, we will be suspending classes for an additional two weeks. This suspension includes all programs and services, including our upcoming Rock Painting Workshop on Thursday, March 19th and our Weaving for Beginners program on Monday evenings, starting March 23rd. Programs are set to resume on Monday, April 6th. Knitting and crochet groups, as well as lunch time church service are also suspended until further notice. This is subject to any changes in the spread of COVID-19 and will be updated as necessary.

East Hants and Area Community Rider will be scaling back our operations to protect our drivers and passengers. We are discouraging all non-essential travel to prevent the unnecessary spread of COVID-19. In addition, anyone with cold/flu symptoms or who has traveled outside of Nova Scotia after Thursday, March 12th is requested to avoid using our services until 14 days free of cold/flu symptoms.

For all remaining drives, precautions will be taken to protect the health of everyone on board. Vehicles will be thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis and any parts of the car that are touched by passengers will be cleaned immediately after transportation. These practices will continue until further notice.

For anyone struggling to access basic necessities such as food, medication, or personal hygiene items, our poverty reduction fund is available to anyone in financial need. This fund is only available until the end of March, so please get in touch with our office at 902-883-4716 to register and book a ride.

We appreciate your cooperation in this difficult time. These measures are to address the serious risk posed by COVID-19 and protect our community from its spread. We will be updating our social media page and website with the latest information available. Please refer to Health Canada’s page on COVID-19 for current cases, how to prepare and methods of prevention: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19.html
